What You’ll Learn From This Course:

Upon completion of the Recovery Nutrition course, you will:

  • Understand carbohydrates' critical role in post-exercise recovery, especially for clients who exercise frequently and/or participate in endurance events.

  • Be able to explain how protein enhances recovery after a difficult workout, and how it supports carbohydrates in the process.

  • Learn how the body responds to the different macronutrients, and what this looks like in terms of metabolic blood markers.

  • Know how to best time the intake of specific nutrients and how much of each is needed, providing clients the nutrition their body needs for optimal workout recovery.

  • Recognize why water is so important to exercise recovery, and how much a person needs to adequately rehydrate.

  • Gain a better understanding of whether sports drinks are helpful after exercise, and what beverage may be better instead.

How You Can Use It:

Any good fitness instructor knows that, while exercise is important, recovery is equally as important – if not even more so. If the body isn’t given enough time to recover between intense workout sessions, a client’s fitness (and their health) could get worse instead of better. Additionally, a well-planned diet can help support post-exercise recovery, better preparing the client for their next difficult training session.

Personal trainers can use the information learned in this course to help guide clients, giving them the knowledge needed to make dietary decisions that promote exercise recovery. Fitness professionals who provide clients with personalized eating plans can use this information to make those menus more effective for clients who might benefit from a more structured recovery, which includes those who exercise regularly or engage in endurance-based activities.

At a minimum, this course serves as a reminder that recovery is not an aspect of exercise that should be overlooked. Instead, it’s something that fitness trainers should be talking about with their clients, potentially enhancing their performance and other fitness-based results because their bodies had the nutrients needed to recover post-exercise.
