Obesity Reported 'Not All Bad'
Santa Barbara, CA -- Jan.5, 2005 -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov) report that people affected by obesity is at an all time high. This is a life-threatening condition that causes an increase in high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and countless lifestyle diseases.
But this isn't all bad news.
The increase in poor health maladies has caused a positive flip side for fitness professionals. With an estimated 1.5 out of every 4 people being overweight, health care costs will skyrocket as out-of-shape people grow older.

"People will feel the effects of poor nutrition and lack of fitness by spending more time in the doctor's office, spending their retirement income on medications, and suffering from years of poor health reflecting upon a time when they could have reversed some of the damage," said Dr. Sal Arria, CEO of the International Sports Sciences Association, (ISSA) a southern California-based fitness education company that teaches, trains, and educates Personal Trainers.
"Unless some serious changes happen to the way our society views exercise and nutrition, such as aggressive advertising of processed foods to our youth, I see a bright future for personal trainers, for many years to come," he said.
The National Institute of Health (www.NIH.gov) recently launched their 5-a-day program -- which is essentially teaching people how to build their meals and snacks around fruits and vegetables, rather than carbohydrates and proteins. This is somewhat contrary to some popular fad diets. "Fad diets are just that, here today and gone tomorrow," Dr. Arria commented. "It's important that people learn to consume good foods, live foods that spoil quickly, and do not have a shelf life longer than us."
"If you have never hired a personal trainer to keep you on the right track, teaching you proper fitness and nutrition, it can be one of the most rewarding investments of your life," Dr. Arria said. Leading experts say that fitness and nutrition are the keys to a longer, healthy life. But it may be a wise idea to work with an expert to ensure the path you are taking is the right one.
